Governance of IT coping with the corona; covid-19 situation

Courage is the differentiator in this global experiment handling corona #covid-19 but surely information, knowledge and simulation models helps too. No-one can then dismiss that IT and technology plays a significant role in so many aspects of managing and coping with the situation. Asian countries ahead of the curve now use #Apps and #big_data to monitor who is clear of the disease and who is not. Ethical considerations of protecting #privacy data may now have to be dismissed for the greater good of society statistics. Normal means of dealing with crisis’ may no longer suffice since this is no longer normal times.

Obviously the current dependency of China in a substantially amount of world supply chains have been an eye opening insight and learning of at least one flaw and less optimal side to #globalization. Decisions to apply a principle of spreading your risks should be more carefully considered going forward in order to ensure local and/or regional availability of #critical supplies such as currently means of covid-19 protection and test equipment. Impacting factors such as airborne transportation availability should if not already present be implemented into system #simulation #AI models supporting supply chain choices giving the #realtime capability for predicting and acting to prevent or at least minimize scarcity.

Students from primary school to universities have been sent home to continue their learning schemas and studies remotely. And in many cases luckily this is already enabled by #onlinevirtual training capabilities and #platforms institutionalized by governmental means. This should continue to grow and be supplemented by use of platforms supporting the social interactions and discussions amongst peer scholars or ease of contact of a teacher when in need of further help. Remember to include #protective means of especially youngster and teach them to navigate safely and avoid irrelevant and unnecessary contact with strangers in this new virtual reality.

Organizations facing #quarantines and #social distancing requests from governments have probably already taken appropriate actions to scale up the capability and capacity for #remotework, which could apply for #boardofdirectors and #executives too. Cautious C-suite members would have included additional controls to address increased #cybersecurity risks in this setup. An updated #riskregister and a proper schema of #riskmanagement helps identifying and addressing quickly alternating risks occurring as well as simultanouosly keeping an eye on existing risks.

The situation also desperately calls for looking for new #businessopportunities and #innovation facilitated by safe #technologies not seen since times of war or as related outcomes of space programs. For example as we watch the number of orders on the #internet go up so could delivery by virus-free drones go up too. This is important in order to address the devastating prognosis for the #worldeconomy which could have an equally large negative impact on societies on the longer run.

In order to be sufficiently and adequately #agile and able to address all risks and opportunities in these times it makes a difference to have a good governance framework of IT in place. Help us in order to improve and adapt the ISO38500-series standards for governance of IT to the new reality of the future by submitting your reply to our survey before end March 2020.

Thank you!
